I would take a bet that most people reading this article will think that the previous paragraph sounds sensible. However, we all know that we should regularly check our vehicle’s tyre pressures and oil etc. But many of us cannot be bothered!

Looking after your electric garage door doesn’t just make life so much easier for you on a daily basis. It doesn’t just enhance the smooth opening and closing for exit or entry. It can also impact on the security of your home if it is not operating as efficiently as it should.

Most of the garage doors that we fit here at Hollington doors work automatically nowadays. Most people prefer that option.  Who would ever choose a television without a remote? Come to think of it, I doubt that you could buy a tv without one even if you wanted to!

But like anything that works electronically, if there is a problem, there are the obvious things that should be looked at first before worrying about it.

Check that the power source is working and switched on. Now this may sound pretty obvious, but the power can be interrupted in many different ways. The door opener may have been unplugged inadvertently by somebody else not realising it at the time. A fuse may have blown, either a main fuse or within the plug itself.

Go inside the garage from another exit if you can, Check that your electric garage door is working by touching the electronic switch that is within the garage. If this is the case, then chances are that the remote control is the problem. The batteries may need replacing. If this doesn’t work, it could be a blocked signal issue. This may be temporary as someone close by may be interfering with the signal completely oblivious to your remote control not working. If the problem persists, then try reprogramming your remote control.

Check that there is nothing obstructing the doors’s photo eye vision. It should be completely clear. If there is something disturbing its path, the opening or closing may well be affected.

A broken torsion spring would stop the electric garage door from operating. If you hear a loud bang and it isn’t the fuse, then check the torsion springs. If it’s broken, do not try to use the door, but just give us a call as soon as possible. We will send an engineer to fix it.

Lubricating the moving components regularly will enhance your electric garage door’s performance and prevent unnecessary wear and tear. Again it’s a simple thing to do, but will help the longevity of the whole mechanical unit.
